Psychological Assessment Reports

At HD Psychologists, we provide psychological assessment reports for the use as supporting documents for a range of purposes. We provide Psychological Assessment Reports for international students to be presented to schools such as universities and colleges, immigration, or other institutions. We also provide reports for courts such as  expert witness  or for example NSW section 14 of the mental health act.

International students and individuals on other visas may at times face issues that have arisen due to some complications related to their school. That is where we come in, we look after students or other individuals with visa compliance issues and support them through the difficulties they may face due to past or current issues that have arisen.

Many students and other individuals who are suffering from excessive levels of stress, depression, and anxiety typically do not talk to a doctor or medical professional about their issues, and as such their attendance at school or their academic performance can be negatively affected and the Department of Immigration and Border Protection is notified. This results in the individual finding themselves in a difficult predicament with the potential of their visa being refused or cancelled, but in this situation, HD Psychologists will come to the rescue with our psychological assessment reports which analyse and assess the mental state of the student or individual during the time of their problematic visa compliance and shed some light on to the circumstances that person was facing. It is through our reports that an international student/individuals on another visa are able to bring our professional opinion to their communications with the Department of Immigration or their school institutions in the aim of re-establishing their student status or for other matters.

We here at HD Psychologists know that there is always opportunity for a new beginning, and we are here to ensure that students and other individuals are not disadvantaged by any complications regarding issues from the past. We are here to support you throughout your communications with authorities and  institutions.

Please do not hesitate to contact our office for more information about us and our services and we will be happy to assist you.

We have been creating our psychological assessment reports for over 16 years, and to show some examples, our reports have been used as a supporting document for the requests by our clients in the following areas:

  • Letters of release from educational institutions (university, college, etc.)

Psycho-Legal/ Medico-legal Psychological Assessments Reports for courts and individuals.

At HD Psychologists, we provide Expert Witness Psychological Assessment Reports for courts and individuals, these reports are Provided by  fully qualified registered psychologists in producing objective and evidence-based psychological assessment reports for  matters under Section 14 of the Mental Health (Forensic Provisions) Act.

Section 14 of the New South Wales NSW Mental Health (Forensic Provisions) Act is commonly used to divert those who suffer from mental conditions away from criminal penalisation and towards getting the help and treatment they need. A section 14 can be granted in situations where someone was suffering from a mental condition at the time of the alleged offence, or can be shown to be suffering from an ongoing mental condition during the court proceedings.

If you have been charged with an offence and you are granted a section 14 mental health order, it means that you will bypass the court system in favour of a court-mandated treatment plan and won’t receive a criminal conviction. The magistrate may dismiss the charges altogether as long as you agree to participate in a treatment plan. In other cases, they may adjourn the court proceedings until you have undergone treatment to see how you respond.

If you are currently in custody, you may be able to successfully obtain bail if you can get a section 14 order. This will allow you to remain out of custody until your court date on the condition that you participate in the mandatory treatment program.

The definition of a mental health condition is less severe than a developmental disability or mental illness. Mental health conditions can cover a range of different issues including anxiety, depression, severe substance abuse. A mental health condition is broadly defined as a mental health problem which is treatable through a psychologist or counselling.

Our psychologists are professionally qualified to provide assessment reports and treatments relating to most expert witness matters as they have been from the first day of their registration with Australian Health Registration Authority AHPRA. At HD psychology we have done numerous psychological assessment reports on behalf of our clients to be submitted to the Courts, Department of Immigration, Migration Review Tribunal, and Educational institutions.

The quality of our reports is insured by face to face interviewing and assessment; the use of psychometric tests when appropriate, and consultation with the referees to ensure we clearly understand and provide for the requirements of the reports. However, on odd occasions and where the possibility of face to face interviews has been difficult we have collated much information from other sources to develop comprehensive psychological reports.

We can be best contacted on (001161) 1800977866 or via our “contact us” page email service.

International Students

HD Psychology has been actively engaged in advocating for International students in several ways.

At HD Psychology, we have been supporting international students’ mental health in Australia for over 15 years. We are well known and respected by the International students industry and the authorities both in educational institutions and the government bodies in charge of these affairs.

At HD Psychology we have been addressing issues faced by International students during this times, and we continue to advocate for the psychological well-being of international students in many ways. We offer counselling for students mental health and, should there be a need, we are here to present their mental health state to an educational institution, the immigration department and or Administration Appeals Tribunal (AAT).

Initially we came to understand that international students living in Australia had to cope with an extra layer of stress in comparison to local students.

International students not only have to deal with the study requirements and demands of their studies workload and future qualifications, they also have to deal with a new culture, language and the isolation that comes with being away from their loved ones and those who usually support them during hard times.

For an international student, things may  not present as straightforward as they may do for local students; they may have fallen into a bad accommodation, or have lost a loved one back at home, they may be victim of crime, or lost a very important relationship  that can easily lead to serious problems with schools academic performance that can later  lead to complication with student visa compliance , at HD psychology we understand these issues and have for many years helping those international students in needs.

Sometimes some International students are not always aware of the delicate situation they may find themselves in.

In a case of moderate Depression or Anxiety, usually back in their own country, International students would approach family members and friends for consolation. In Australia, however, students find themselves in a foreign land without such support. The unfamiliar environment can lead to confusion and mismanagement of certain situations, in this case, depression, anxiety and/or other related mental health disorders/issues/difficulties can come into play.

The usual consequences of International Students mismanaging their mental health state can include bad academic progress or extended absence without any record of their recent battle with these debilitating mental health issues.

International students may simply not be aware of the support network that is available to them in Australia, consequently they may suffer in silence until there is an inquiry to their whereabouts by their educational institution or the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) otherwise known as the Immigration Department.

At HD Psychology we noticed that at this crucial point students’ stress levels and depression symptoms increase greatly as the concerned student facing  serious negative visa consequences. The initial stress they were under meets with this new element of being threatened with the possibility of their expulsion from the course or the revocation of their student visa.

At this point, our detailed assessment of their mental health state and what has been happening in their life to get them to this point will be conducted. All parties involved will be informed by our findings and of the remediation needed to get the concerned international student back on their feet and back on their educational trajectory.

These students may not  previously and during the time of their depression have seen any mental health specialist or physician and therefore don’t have any proof of their mental health issues. With our initial psychological assessment they will be able to demonstrate the reason to why they were not able to attend their school or failed the expected academic progress.

Early Intervention Matters

HD Psychologists early intervention for children and families aims to provide a mental health check-up by:

  • Identifying mild mood disorders (anxiety and depression), and self-harm and intervene before they become a big problem.
  • Developing social competencies and resilience
  • Increasing engagement of parents by working with parents to effectively support their child’s mental health
  • Providing a targeted face-to-face professional early intervention/prevention program to address the issues before they become a problem
  • Working with children who have a disability to achieve their optimum potential by using evidence-based assessments and intervention and making appropriate referrals where necessary

Services such as Headspace, and the National Youth Mental Health Foundation have identified early preventative interventions that can prevent many of the problems experienced later in life. It is, however, not always easy to know what your children are thinking or experiencing.

HD Psychologists are trained to identify early preventative interventions to assist pre-school teachers, teachers, children and young people’s parents to prevent many of the problems experienced later in life.

Emotional distress affects children and young people’s wellbeing, educational achievements, development, happiness and resilience (their ability to bounce back, foster happy relationships and enjoy life). Mental Health issues such as anxiety, depression and self-harm behaviours do have significant negative impact on children and young people’s lives. The impact of such stresses can be significantly reduced or prevented with timely psychological interventions. These issues have a significant impact on the health and wellbeing of children and young people, including their educational, development and wellbeing outcomes.

To support pre-schools, school communities and parents to effectively identify and respond to the mental health needs of children and young people hrd Psychologists have developed a service aimed at enhancing the mind functioning of children and young people and to assist parents, carers and teachers to identify and manage issues as they arise.
